Where it fits around Austin

Dripping Springs, about 35 minutes west on US-290, calls itself the wedding capital of Texas, and many of its venues sit at the end of ranch roads with gravel lots. Arriving in a full-size SUV in a suit or a long dress, with the gifts and garment bags in the back, is simply easier. The same goes for the resorts and golf courses west of the city, such as Omni Barton Creek, and for the lake homes around Lakeway and Spicewood, where driveways are often steep.

On the highway, the Grand Cherokee is quiet and settled. It is a good car for the long trips Texas is known for: Fredericksburg in about an hour and a half, Houston in roughly two and a half to three hours, Marfa or Big Bend in about seven hours west. Four large suitcases and a cooler fit behind the second row.
