East Austin covers a lot of ground in a few miles: the bars and restaurants on East Sixth and East Cesar Chavez, the older blocks of Holly, Govalle and Rosewood, and to the north the Mueller neighborhood, built where Austin's old airport used to be. Plenty of people on the east side live without a car, or share one, and rent when the week calls for it. We bring the car to the house, the apartment or the short-term rental, and pick it up at the end.
It is the same fleet and the same rates as our economy car rental Austin service, with delivery and collection included.

Mueller: the old airport, now a neighborhood
Robert Mueller Municipal Airport closed in 1999, when Austin-Bergstrom opened, and the land has since been rebuilt as a planned neighborhood about 10 minutes northeast of downtown. It holds Dell Children's Medical Center, the Thinkery children's museum, an H-E-B, Mueller Lake Park and a mix of houses, townhomes and apartments. The streets are newer and wider than most of East Austin, with parking garages at the retail blocks, so it is one of the easier parts of central Austin to drive in.
Weekend visitors come here too: grandparents in town to take the kids to the Thinkery, families walking the trail around the lake. If they are staying with relatives in Mueller, a car delivered to the curb lets everyone keep their own plans.
Dell Children's brings a particular kind of rental: families who travel to Austin for a child's care and stay for days or weeks. A dependable Toyota Corolla or similar or Honda CR-V or similar waiting at the door of wherever you are staying takes one worry off the list. For stays that run past a few weeks, see monthly car rental, and call or text 512-851-0490 if your dates are still uncertain; we can extend a booking.
East Sixth, Cesar Chavez and Holly
The streets east of I-35 between Lady Bird Lake and 12th Street are some of the busiest short-term rental blocks in the city. Visitors book a house for a weekend of food and music and want a car for the parts that are not walkable: a Hill Country day, an afternoon at the lake, a drive out to a wedding venue. The Honda Accord or similar or the Mazda CX-5 or similar fits four adults with bags. Groups who rent two houses on the same street often take one Ford Transit Van or similar instead of two cars.
Street parking here is mostly unmetered but crowded on weekend nights near East Sixth, and some blocks have residential permit zones. Read the signs, and do not leave bags in sight in a parked car anywhere near the bars.
Windsor Park, Cherrywood and the north side
Between Mueller and US 290 sit quieter residential neighborhoods: Cherrywood, Windsor Park and the streets along Berkman Drive and Manor Road. Bookings here come mostly from residents. A car in the body shop for two weeks (see replacement rentals). Parents flying in for the birth of a grandchild. A Toyota Tacoma or similar for a weekend of fence posts, a new washer and a trip to the recycling center.
Getting around from East Austin
The east side is one of the quickest parts of the city to the airport. From East Cesar Chavez or Holly, US 183 south to SH 71 puts you at AUS in about 15 minutes without traffic; from Mueller, plan on about 20. The AUS airport rental page explains the curbside handoff for flights in and out. Downtown is five minutes across I-35 from East Sixth and about 10 minutes from Mueller, although the I-35 rebuild can make crossing the highway slower than it looks on the map.
Mueller also sits close to US 290 East, the road out to Manor, and to SH 130, the toll road that runs north to Pflugerville, Round Rock and Georgetown. The toll roads guide explains which routes have tolls. The airport itself, Circuit of the Americas and Giga Texas have their own page: Del Valle and Manor.
Trying an electric car
East Austin residents ask about electric cars more than most, often because they are thinking of buying one and want to live with it for a week first. The Ford Mustang Mach-E or similar has around 250 miles of range, enough for a week of city driving and a day trip on one charge. Our electric car rental page explains how charging works if you have no plug at home.
Handoffs on the east side
Give us the address and a time. Many older East Austin houses have no driveway, so we meet you at the curb out front; at an apartment building, at the main entrance or the garage gate. The handoff takes about ten minutes: license, card, a walk-around, keys. Your booking is confirmed by phone within the hour, and at the end we collect the car from the same spot, or from the AUS arrivals curb if you are flying out.
How it works
- Pick the vehicle category and your dates in the form at the top of this page, or call or text 512-851-0490.
- Tell us where to bring it: a home, hotel or office in East Austin & Mueller, or the AUS arrivals curb.
- We confirm by phone within the hour and deliver the car clean and fueled at the time you chose. About ten minutes for license, card, walk-around and keys.
- When you are done, we collect it from the same place.
What you need
A valid driver's license and a major credit or debit card. Minimum age is 21, with no young-driver surcharge. Basic liability coverage is included; the refundable deposit and the coverage options are explained before you pay anything. There is no airport concession fee and no facility charge. Every car is recent, automatic, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and "or similar" means you reserve the category and get that model or one of the same class, seats and price.
Common questions
How far is East Austin from the airport?
About 15 minutes from East Cesar Chavez or Holly by US 183 and SH 71, and about 20 minutes from Mueller, without traffic. We meet you at the AUS arrivals curb or bring the car to your door.
Do you deliver near Dell Children's Medical Center?
Yes, to homes, apartments and hotels in Mueller and the neighborhoods around it. Families staying for treatment often book a week or more; three days or more cost less per day. For open-ended stays, call or text 512-851-0490.
Can you deliver to a short-term rental on the east side?
Yes. Give us the street address and a time and we meet you at the curb. Delivery and collection are included, and you do not need to share any door or gate code.
Is the airport area part of East Austin?
Not on our site. Del Valle, Circuit of the Americas and Giga Texas have their own page: Del Valle and Manor car rental. Delivery works the same way on both sides.
Which car for a group renting two houses?
One Ford Transit Van or similar instead of two cars: it seats 12 with room for about 10 bags. For a bigger group, the van rental page also lists the 15-passenger van.
