Who rents a car in Round Rock, and why
Dell moved its headquarters to Round Rock in 1993 and is still the city's largest employer. That means a steady stream of visiting engineers, auditors, sales teams and new hires on a house-hunting trip. Most of them need a car for five to ten days, mainly to get between a hotel, the campus and dinner. Round Rock is also a shopping and resort town. The Kalahari Resort on the east side has a huge indoor water park and a convention center, so you get a mix of families and conference groups. Round Rock Premium Outlets and IKEA pull shoppers from all over Central Texas, and a car with a real trunk beats an Uber when the bags pile up.

Dell Diamond, Old Settlers Park and tournament weekends
Dell Diamond on East Palm Valley Boulevard (US 79) is home to the Round Rock Express, the Texas Rangers' Triple-A team. Right next door, Old Settlers Park covers about 570 acres of ball fields, and on spring and summer weekends it fills with youth baseball, softball and soccer tournaments from across Texas.
Tournament families tend to travel in groups and carry a lot of gear. A Hyundai Santa Fe or similar ($131 a day, five seats, four bags) handles one family with coolers and bat bags. If two families or a coach and part of the team want to ride together, the Ford Transit or similar seats 12 with room for 10 bags at $296 a day. Getting into Austin from Round Rock: I-35, SH 45 and SH 130
Downtown Austin is about 25 to 30 minutes down I-35 without traffic. At rush hour, the stretch through north Austin can easily double that, so if you have a morning meeting downtown, leave early or look at the toll roads.
SH 45 is a toll road that runs east to west along Round Rock's southern edge and connects to MoPac and to 183A on the west side. SH 130, also tolled, runs north to south along the east side of town and is usually the quicker way to the airport, avoiding central Austin. Before you head out on the toll roads, ask us how tolls work on your rental. The Domain and north Austin's tech offices are about 15 to 20 minutes away when I-35 and MoPac are moving.
