Game nights at the H-E-B Center
The H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, at 183A and New Hope Road, seats about 8,700 and is home to two pro teams: the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League and the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League. It also hosts concerts, graduations and the Central Texas high school all-star games.
Fans who fly in for a road trip to see their team, and grandparents in town for a graduation, are the classic Cedar Park renters. Book a few days around the game, stay at a hotel near 1890 Ranch or Lakeline, and keep the car for dinner and a morning at the lake. After a sellout, the exits onto 183A back up for a while, so plan on a slow first ten minutes.
Texas Stars hockey runs through the fall and winter, and the Austin Spurs season runs roughly November through March, so Cedar Park's busiest event nights fall in the cooler months. That's also when family visits peak around Thanksgiving and the holidays. If your trip lines up with a home game and a holiday, book the car early.
Commuting from Cedar Park: 183A, US 183 and Parmer Lane
Cedar Park has two north-south spines. The 183A toll road runs from north Austin up through Cedar Park and into Leander, and it's usually the faster option at peak hours. US 183 (Bell Boulevard through the older part of town) runs alongside it with traffic lights, and it's free. Ask us how tolls work on your rental before you rely on 183A every day.
Heading south, US 183 takes you past Lakeline Mall to the north Austin tech corridor, and Parmer Lane, home to several big tech campuses, is about 15 minutes away. Lakeline, 1890 Ranch and everyday errands
Most of Cedar Park's shopping clusters in two places: Lakeline Mall on the south end, and 1890 Ranch, the open-air center at RM 1431 (Whitestone Boulevard) and 183A. Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is right next to 1890 Ranch, so if you're visiting someone in the hospital, a car dropped at your hotel nearby keeps the trips short. The city is also redeveloping a 52-acre district along Bell Boulevard into a walkable town center, so expect some construction on that stretch.
