Bastrop is about 30 miles east of downtown Austin on SH 71, an old river town on the Colorado with a historic Main Street, two state parks within a short drive and a growing list of employers. It is also only 25 to 30 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom, which makes it an easy base for a getaway or a work assignment away from Austin traffic. We deliver rental cars to homes, hotels, the resort and work sites in and around Bastrop, and to the AUS arrivals curb for anyone flying in.
The fleet and the rates are the same as our economy car rental Austin service, with delivery and collection included.
Downtown Bastrop is compact: Main Street's shops and restaurants sit a few blocks from the Colorado River, and you can park once and walk. The car is for everything beyond it, the parks, the resort, the plants and the drive back to Austin.

Bastrop State Park and the Lost Pines
The Lost Pines are a stand of loblolly pines growing far west of the main East Texas pine forest, and Bastrop State Park sits in the middle of them at the edge of town. Much of the park burned in the 2011 Bastrop County Complex fire, and the forest has been growing back ever since. The trails, the small lake and the stone cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s draw visitors all year. Buescher State Park, near Smithville, is the smaller neighbor to the southeast. Texas state parks often sell out day passes on busy weekends, so reserve ahead on the state parks website.
A compact SUV is the comfortable choice for a park weekend: the Honda CR-V or similar or the Ford Bronco Sport or similar for two or three people and their gear, the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands or similar if you want the trail-ready version, and the Hyundai Santa Fe or similar for a family with a cooler and camping equipment. The park roads are paved, so four-wheel drive is not needed. Our SUV rental page compares the options.
Hyatt Regency Lost Pines and Cedar Creek
The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort sits on the Colorado River in Cedar Creek, off SH 71 between the airport and Bastrop, roughly 20 minutes from AUS. It hosts weddings, family vacations and company retreats, and McKinney Roughs Nature Park next door has trails along the river. Guests who want to see Bastrop, eat in Austin one night or drive to a state park can have a car brought to the resort entrance. For wedding parties, see wedding guest car rental; a Ford Transit Van or similar carries a group to the rehearsal dinner in one trip.
Working in Bastrop County
Bastrop County has become an industrial area as well as a getaway. SpaceX builds Starlink equipment at a large factory in the county, with The Boring Company next door, and both bring engineers, installers and contractors in for weeks at a time. Giga Texas is about 25 minutes west on SH 71. For those stays, monthly car rental is quoted by phone, and corporate car rental covers several cars for one company. A Toyota Corolla or similar keeps the commute simple, and the Toyota Tacoma or similar works for anyone carrying tools. Our business trip guide covers the plants east of Austin.
Smithville, Elgin and the towns around
Smithville is about 15 minutes southeast of Bastrop on SH 71, a small railroad town that has served as a film location and the gateway to Buescher State Park. Elgin is about 25 minutes north on SH 95, the self-styled sausage capital of Texas, where SH 95 meets US 290 for the drive back to Manor and Austin. Further out, La Grange makes an easy day trip about 40 minutes east on SH 71. We deliver in Bastrop, Smithville and Elgin; for addresses beyond them, ask us.
People in these towns rent for the same reasons as anywhere else: a car in the shop in Austin for a week, family flying in for a reunion, a teenager's first car that gave out. A delivered car saves the long drive into the city to pick one up.
Getting to and from Austin
SH 71 is the main road: a divided highway running from Bastrop west past the Hyatt, Giga Texas and the airport into Austin. Without traffic the airport is 25 to 30 minutes and downtown Austin about 40. The highway gets heavy on Friday afternoons heading east and Sunday evenings heading back, when Austin leaves town for the weekend. If you fly in, meet us at the curb: the AUS airport rental page explains the handoff, and you are on SH 71 east within minutes of the terminal.
The handoff in Bastrop takes about ten minutes: license, card, walk-around, keys. Bookings are confirmed by phone within the hour; call or text 512-851-0490 with the address and the time.

What you need
A valid driver's license and a major credit or debit card. Minimum age is 21, with no young-driver surcharge. Basic liability coverage is included; the refundable deposit and the coverage options are explained before you pay anything. There is no airport concession fee and no facility charge. Every car is recent, automatic, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and "or similar" means you reserve the category and get that model or one of the same class, seats and price.
