Why rent a Honda Civic in Austin
- Austin traffic on I-35 and MoPac rewards a car that is easy to park and cheap to fill.
- Most visitors stay a week: SXSW, ACL, a UT weekend, a work assignment at the Domain. Weekly rates cut the daily price.
- The Hill Country, Lake Travis and the wineries around Fredericksburg are an hour away and are the reason to have your own car.

Honda Civic rental in Austin: a city car for the central neighborhoods
If most of your trip happens inside MoPac and I-35, a Civic is the right size. Dinner on South Congress, a show at the Moody Center or Stubb's, a swim at Barton Springs Pool, breakfast tacos in East Austin: these are drives of 10 to 20 minutes that end with a search for a parking space. The Civic is short, turns tightly and fits the street spots that a mid-size SUV has to pass by.
Where a small car helps in Austin
Around the UT campus, West Campus and Hyde Park, streets are narrow and some blocks are residential-permit parking only, so read the signs before you leave the car. South Congress and the side streets of Travis Heights fill up early on weekends. Downtown, garages near Rainey Street and the Convention Center are compact and busy on event nights.
On Friday and Saturday nights the busiest blocks of East 6th Street are closed to traffic for the bar crowd. Park a few blocks away and walk in, or leave the car at the hotel and come back for it the next day.
Out of the center, the Civic is pleasant on Loop 360 (Capital of Texas Highway), with its hills and the view from the Pennybacker Bridge, and on Bee Cave Road out toward Lake Travis. From the airport, most downtown hotels are about 15 minutes away without traffic, so with the Civic waiting at the curb you can be checked in soon after you land.
Space, and when to size up
Five seats and room for two large suitcases. That covers a couple, a solo traveler, or three friends with carry-on bags. The Toyota Corolla or similar is the same class and the same $98 a day, so pick either one. If you want a higher seat and space for a third suitcase, the Mazda CX-5 or similar compact SUV is $114 a day.
Three Austin trips that suit a Civic
- A UT weekend. Parents' weekend, move-in day or graduation means short hops between campus, a hotel and restaurants, with parking that gets scarce near the stadium on game days. Our guide to UT Austin parents' weekend and graduation covers the timing.
- SXSW in March or ACL in October. There is no public parking at Zilker Park for ACL, and downtown streets close during SXSW. A small car you can park on the edge and leave is the practical choice; see what to book for SXSW and ACL.
- Staying north and driving in. Many visitors book a hotel in Round Rock or Cedar Park and drive about 30 minutes into the city. We deliver there too; read car rental delivered in Round Rock and Cedar Park.

Frequently asked questions
Will I get exactly a Honda Civic?
You reserve the compact sedan category. Most of the time it is the Honda Civic; when it is not, it is a similar car of the same class, seats and year range, at the same price.
Do you deliver to Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS)?
Yes. Send us your flight number and the car is at the curb when you land. Airport delivery in Austin is free.
What do I need to rent in Austin?
A valid driver's license, a major credit or debit card, and a minimum age of 21. We confirm everything by phone within the hour of your booking.
Is a Honda Civic easy to park in downtown Austin and near UT?
Yes, that is its main advantage. It fits compact garage spaces downtown and the tight street spots in West Campus, Hyde Park and Travis Heights. Watch for permit-only and metered blocks, and expect parking near the stadium to fill on UT game days.
What is the difference between the Civic and the Corolla in Austin?
None in price or class: both are compact sedans with five seats and two large bags at $98 a day. Book whichever you prefer. You reserve the category, and we deliver that model or one of the same class.
Is a Civic enough for a trip to Lake Travis or the Hill Country?
Yes. The roads to Lake Travis, Dripping Springs and Fredericksburg are paved highways and ranch roads that any compact sedan handles. If you are carrying coolers and bags for four people, the Mazda CX-5 or similar gives you more room.
